Compact Drive Power

In-Wheel Drive

In-Wheel Drive

Heavy AGVs need compact drives that carry large loads. The RVW places a Precision Reduction Gear RV inside a Mecanum wheel.

  • Precision Reduction Gear RV built into the wheel
  • Omnidirectional travel with the Mecanum wheel
  • Support for all major servo motors
Lift And Turn

Lift And Turn

Top modules and rotating decks need low height and high load support. The RS Series offers a low profile, a hollow through hole and a right-angle input.

  • RS Series supports a maximum load of 9 tons
  • Hollow through hole for routing cables and lines
  • RV-N, RV-C and RV-E gears for custom drives
Payload

Payload

Heavy-payload vehicles put large radial and moment loads on every wheel, at rest and in motion. The RVW is built around a Precision Reduction Gear RV and is designed to support these large loads.

RVW load ratings assume a vehicle with four drive units, so size each drive from the whole vehicle, its payload and the route it runs.

Mecanum Drive

Mecanum Drive

Mecanum wheels let a vehicle move sideways, travel diagonally and turn in place, which shortens maneuvers in narrow aisles and at docking stations. Each wheel is driven on its own, so every drive must deliver accurate, repeatable motion.

With the RV gear inside the wheel, the RVW supports omnidirectional movement and precise positioning in a compact package.

Compact Build

Compact Build

Space inside a mobile robot chassis is needed for batteries, controllers, sensors and payload. Integrating the reduction gear inside the wheel frees that space and reduces the number of parts that have to be mounted and aligned on the chassis.

Support for all major servo motors and an included Mecanum wheel leave the drive ready to mount to your motor and chassis.

Duty Cycle

Duty Cycle

Mobile robots start, stop and change direction all shift long. RV gears use rolling contact elements for low wear and long life, and each RVW model lists an allowable acceleration and deceleration torque to size against.

Size the drive for real floor conditions, including ramps, thresholds, uneven floors and emergency stops, not only flat travel.

Selection Guide

Sizing an AGV drive starts with the vehicle, not the wheel. Work through these points with your vehicle and route data before you size a drive. Your answers narrow the catalog to a short list of drive units to compare.
  • Start from vehicle mass, payload and wheel count
Total load is shared across all of the drive units on the vehicle.
RVW load ratings are referenced to a vehicle with four drive units.
  • Calculate motor speed and torque
Use target speed, acceleration and the steepest ramp on the route.
These values set the motor size and gear ratio for each drive wheel.
  • Plan for starts, stops and emergency braking
Frequent braking, reversing and docking define the real duty cycle.
Check peak loads against the allowable acceleration/deceleration torque.
  • Check the drive unit envelope
Outer dimensions of the drive unit change with the selected motor.
Confirm the envelope against the chassis early in the design.
  • Review top-module axes at the same time
Turntables and lifts on the vehicle add their own loads and cycles.
The RS Series and RV gears can cover these axes on the same platform.
